Electric Vehicle Incentives Available to Canadian Fleet Managers

Updated October 8, 2026

Canadian businesses considering electric vehicles for their fleets may qualify for financial incentives that help reduce acquisition costs and support the transition to cleaner transportation.

The Government of Canada’s Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP) currently provides incentives of up to $5,000 for eligible new battery-electric vehicles and $2,500 for eligible plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Of particular importance to Canadian fleet managers, eligible electric vehicles manufactured in Canada are exempt from the program’s $50,000 transaction-value ceiling. This provides an additional reason to consider Canadian-made vehicles when evaluating fleet replacement and expansion opportunities.

Additional provincial incentives are available in Manitoba, Quebec and Prince Edward Island, potentially increasing the total savings for qualifying purchases. Businesses may also benefit from applicable tax deductions and charging infrastructure programs.

Eligibility requirements, vehicle limits, leasing arrangements and provincial restrictions vary. Fleet managers should confirm available incentives before finalizing procurement decisions.

NextGen encourages Canadian fleet managers to consider both available government incentives and the economic benefits of supporting Canadian automotive manufacturing. Selecting suitable Canadian-built vehicles can help sustain domestic jobs, support suppliers and strengthen Canada’s automotive industry.

As government programs and eligibility requirements change, NextGen will continue updating this information to help Canadian fleet operators make informed purchasing decisions.
